Artist Statement

My varied art forms (painting, mixed media, digital, textile) reflect the complex layers and textures of which life is composed.  I paint largely without plan, seeing where textures and shapes lead me; discovering the subject as I explore with colour.  Though drawing on a formal art education,  I work intuitively, painting from the inside out rather than the outside in.   While my work is largely representational, my pictures describe feelings and impressions stirred by a subject rather than the subject itself.  My aim is to both externalize personal sensations and invoke those of the viewer.
